About

CARLA WILSON IN THE STUDIO, 2021.

Biography

I’m an artist and creative writer NATIVE TO San Diego, California. My inspiration comes from THE NATURAL WORLD, where i OFTEN WALK, explore, look closely AND TAKE PHOTOS of the details. i inspect NATURE’S colorS, patternS, SHAPEs and designs.

IN CALIFORNIA WE HAVE THE ENORMOUS PACIFIC OCEAN AND VAST COASTLINE, miles of BEACHes WITH towering CLIFFS, rockY OUTCROPS, DRY GRASSES AND WET green, or DRY, neutral-COLORED SAND, fuschia and pink bougainvillia trees, violet jacarandas and fuschia-flowering succulents. i keep my palette AS CLOSE TO NATURE AS POSSIBLE.

WHILE I’M WALKING, MUSIC enters my head. i often title my works after A SONG AND SOMETIMES, I PAINT TO EXPRESS THE FEELING inspired by A PARTICULAR PIECE OF MUSIC. OTHERwise, I CHOOSE A RANDOM IDEA OR MEMORY THAT RESONATES AT A PARTICULAR MOMENT IN TIME.

I’ve realized I like painting for its physicality and I like to write because I love to work with words. together i try to create a feeling of pure expression.

in 2014 or so, i began to make digital artworks using an ipad or iphone and photos from my walks; some from 2016-2019 are listed here. I took up acrylic painting most recently in 2020 during the pandemic, in response to the chaos and uncertainty in the world.
